JBU Men’s Tennis Goes 0-2 on Weekend
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 1, 2004) — Competing against Hendrix College and Southwestern University, the Golden Eagle men were defeated on Friday by Hendrix 0-9 and then dropped the match with Southwestern on Saturday 0-9.
Although JBU failed to win any individual or doubles matches, Chad Weaver took Garrett Sprowles of Hendrix to 3 sets on Friday before losing the tie-breaker 5-10 and Sam van Aswegen also lost in the tie-breaker to Tim Sears of Hendrix 1-6 after scores of 6-7 and 7-6 in the first two sets. On Saturday, van Aswegen dueled Sam Jones of Southwestern to scores of 7-5, 2-6 and then lost in the final set 6-7. On Saturday, the No. 1 JBU doubles team of Bobby Rojas and Tim Miller pushed Southwestern’s team of Travis Bras and T.J. Walthall to 14 games before losing 6-8 and the No. 2 team of van Aswegen and Kevin Coleman did the same to the No. 2 Southwestern team of Sam Jones and Dillon Gussis.
With the dual losses, the JBU team is now 2-3 for the combined fall and spring seasons. Next up are matches against Harding University and Lyon College tomorrow at Searcy, Arkansas. JBU will face Harding at 1 pm and Lyon at 4 pm on the Harding University courts.
