John Brown University Loses Second Game of the Week
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 28, 2004) — JBU dropped its second game of the week as the Golden Eagles fell to Lubbock Christian 78-72 on Saturday afternoon in Lubbock. The Golden Eagles could not get into an offensive rhythm and had the lead only three times in the game, once in the first half and twice in the second period. Each time JBU made a run at the Lady Chaps, the home team responded, mostly with shots made from beyond three point range, hitting 8 of 15 treys for the game. Lubbock Christian’s Cari Bigham had a big afternoon as she tossed in 22 points to lead the Lady Chaps. D’Nae Wilson, with 4 of the Lady Chaps three-pointers, scored 14 points to assist in the win.
John Brown had three players in double figures as Kendra McCormick scored 14 points while Ashley Wettengel and Alicia Baer each contributed 12 points in the losing effort. Nancy Pierre came off the bench to score 6 points and had a tremendous day defensively for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles drop to 21-10 on the season and 10-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference to end the season at 4th in league play. The most likely opponent for JBU in the opening round of the SAC tournament will be Oklahoma Christian University, the current 5th place team in the conference. First round action will be on Friday, March 5 in Oklahoma City.
