Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 19, 2001) - The JBU Golden Eagles beat the Park University Pirates 78-70 in overtime Monday evening at home. It was the second time JBU has played Park this season, picking up victories both times. The Golden Eagles are now 5-1 on the season.
The game looked as if it would turn out to be an easy win for JBU going into the half, leading 40-27, but Park came out and took the lead as the second half began to wind down. A lay-up in the waning seconds of the game by senior guard Simeon Hinsey knotted the score at 67 and sent the game into overtime. The Golden Eagles dominated the overtime period scoring 11 points to the Pirates three and pulled out the victory.
In the end, it was the determination and leadership of the JBU seniors that proved to be the deciding factor.
JBU senior center Jahir Mejia had a monster game, posting a double-double. His 21 points and 11 rebounds led the team. Notable performances for the Golden Eagles also include senior forward Aldo McKay, who scored 18 and pulled down five boards; senior forward Nathan Law, who scored nine points from behind the arc; and Hinsey also finished with nine pints.
The Golden Eagles have one more game before the Thanksgiving break. The team plays Messenger College at home Nov. 20. The tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
