Hot Shooting Stars Beat Golden Eagles

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 10, 2002) — The JBU Golden Eagles men and women’s basketball teams both ran into a buzz saw in the hot shooting highly ranked Stars of Oklahoma City University losing a pair on the road on Saturday night.

A desperation 40-foot three-pointer right before the half sent the Golden Eagles to the locker room down by only 5 points, but it was a sign of what was to come the second half. JBU missed a number of opportunities to build a lead missing 7 free throws in the closing 5 minutes of the half, two of which were front ends of the bonus. In the second half the stars were seemingly unconscious hitting on 65 percent of their shots including 6 for 12 from long range. While the Stars heated up the Golden Eagles continued to struggle hitting only 42 percent of their shots on the evening falling 58-82 to OCU.

JBU was lead by Jahir Mejia with a game high 20 points while Abdiel Mendietta added 13 for JBU. OCU was lead by Junior Williams with 17 points. JBU falls to 15-10 on the season.
