Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 15, 2002) - The John Brown University men’s basketball team ended a five game losing streak with a solid win at home against Lubbock Christian University 70-54 on Valentine’s Day.
The last game JBU played at home the team had to claw back from being down 19-1 in the first half. Tonight, JBU exacted the same on LCU, leading 22-6 with seven minutes left before half time.
JBU lit it up from downtown, making 13 of its 25 three point shots for 39 of its 70 points.
Leading the way for JBU was senior forward Chris Cameron, who came off the bench to score 18 points and grab seven rebounds. Cameron was 5-for-8 from behind the arc. Senior guard Simeon Hinsey also put in a nice performance scoring 16 for the Golden Eagles. Senior forward Nathan Law scored 10 points and senior center Jahir Mejia put in a solid performance down low for JBU, scoring eight points, grabbing seven boards and blocking two shots.
LCU was led in scoring by freshman forward Brandon Jones with 13 points, followed by junior guard Jeremy Price with 11.
JBU is now 16-10 for the season and owns a Sooner Athletic Conference record of 6-8. LCU’s SAC record dropped to 8-7.
Up next for the Golden Eagles is a match-up with Wayland Baptist, ranked 21st in the NAIA. The game is Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m.
