JBU Signs Westfork Standout Shephard
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 18, 2002) — Siloam Springs, Ark. (Feb 18, 2002) – John Brown University men’s basketball team added their first big addition for next season with the signing of 6’7” Westfork High School standout Tim Shephard for the 2002-2003 season.
Shephard is averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds while currently leading Westfork to a 26-3 mark this year and a 47-10 mark over the past two seasons. He is a two-time 1AAA all-conference selection and was a second team Arkansas High School Junior Dream Team selection prior to the season.
“We are really excited to have signed one of the best local players in northwest Arkansas and one of the top high school players in the state of Arkansas. Coach Ferrell has done a terrific job developing Tim. They are having a wonderful season. We have been watching Tim for a number of years now. We think Tim is going to have a nice career and will be a nice addition to the JBU family,” commented head coach John Sheehy.
The Golden Eagles look to reload after graduating 8 seniors off of their current team, which set a school record the past two seasons winning 38 games, ranking in the top 25, and finishing near the top of the powerful Sooner Athletic Conference. Shephard will likely play the power forward position and has a chance to contribute quality minutes early in his collegiate career.
“Tim is a gifted athlete with a body that can take the physical nature of the collegiate game. He has a very huge upside. We really like how hard he works and runs the floor. Not only that, but he is a quality young man who has excelled both on the court and in the classroom,” added Sheehy.
The Golden Eagles have hopes of landing one maybe two more local blue chippers. The signing of Shephard was definitely a great start to the recruiting season.
