First Lady touts teachers and donors

(February 18, 2004) — (Bentonville-AP) -- A visit to Arkansas by first lady Laura Bush combined presidential politics and a plea for more teachers. Mrs. Bush visited Bentonville High School yesterday to promote teaching as a profession. She said there aren't many jobs where "hero" and "best friend" are part of the job description. As part of her Arkansas trip, Mrs. Bush touted the "Teach-Arkansas" program, which is a state-sponsored effort to recruit teachers. Bentonville Mrs. Bush's first stop on a three-day trip of education and campaign fund-raising events in Arkansas, California and Nevada. Mrs. Bush hosted a fund-raising lunch that raised 150-thousand dollars at a country club in Rogers.
