Therapeutic Groups for women and men

Some individuals seeking help for a particular concern are best served in a group setting. Individuals experiencing similar challenges meet and discuss their needs and challenges to gain direction and help from the therapist as well as from other group members. While this is helpful for many individuals, others are better served on an individual basis. To help place students in the most appropriate setting, a screening interview is arranged to explore further the student’s needs as well as orient them to group or individual therapy.

Screening Interview

Individuals interested in joining a group need to first make an individual appointment by completing an intake form.

Once the intake form is received, the group therapist will meet with each person on an individual basis. The individual meeting will address particulars of group work like: expectations of the group leader, expectations of members’ participation, group members’ reservations of working in a group setting; potential problems members will face, and group norms. Following the individual screening interview, the group therapist will either assign the individual to a group or recommend another form of help, e.g., individual counseling, support group, etc.
