Policy Regarding The Use of University Facilities:

John Brown University facilities have been built to house the educational program of the University and to advance its mission. Therefore, the class schedule and all other university events will have first priority in allocating the use of the facilities. However, as a service to the community of Siloam Springs, when facilities are available, they may be rented as follows:

1. To religious organizations who are in agreement with the doctrinal statement of the University.
2. To civic and community organizations whose purposes are not in conflict with the Christian ideals or lifestyle standards of the JBU community. If there are questions in this regard, they will be addressed by the JBU Facilities Committee.
3. To area businesses or industries whose products or services are not in conflict with the Christian ideals or lifestyle standards of the JBU community. If there are questions in this regard, they will be addressed by the JBU Facilities Committee.
4. To individuals whom are planning events not incompatible with the Christian ideals or lifestyle standards of the JBU community and are willing to agree to the following rules.

Whenever the University does rent facilities to outside organizations or individuals, the following rules will apply:

1. No smoking is allowed on the JBU campus nor may any intoxicating beverage or illegal drug be brought on campus or used in any university facility.
2. Social dancing is not permitted.
3. The Cathedral of the Ozarks is to be used for presentations, concerts, or ceremonies that are consistent with the Christian mission of the University and during which a worshipful environment can be promoted and maintained.
4. The renter of the facilities will assure that the attendees of the event are aware of the applicable standards and rules, and will enforce them.
5. Promotional material issued by any group using university facilities must contain wording that makes it clear that the University is not a sponsor of the event. For example, wording in advertising might read, “the event is sponsored by XYZ, Inc., and will be held in the ABC Building on the JBU campus”.

Any questions of interpretation, applicability, fees, or waivers of University Policy for facility rental will be considered by the JBU Facilities Committee. The University reserves the right to rent or not to rent its facilities for any reason or no reason, and the University may adopt changes in the above policy at any time.
