Since its conception in 2003, The JBU Ultimate Frisbee Club has gone through
our fair share of names, logos, and mascots. First, we were the Folding Beagles
(name and mascot). In the Fall of 2005 the team name was changed to Hullabaloo 7
(no mascot). In fall of 2006 we added the JBUltimate logo (still no mascot), and
we are back to the Folding Beagles.
Someday we will get over our identity crisis and find our place in this world.

I asked some of the Original Members who continued playing for JBU if they had any words they would like to share:

Major: Music, Graduates May 2007
Started Playing as a High School Sophomore
Offensive Position: Handler / Mid
"I started out playing handler, which was also my favorite. Now that the
team has gotten bigger and more skilled, I enjoy playing mid the most
and that is where you'll usually find me. Ultimate is the only thing I'm
really good at, so I'll play it as much as I can."

Major: Chemistry, Graduated May 2006
Started Playing Ultimate instead
of running during Cross Country practice (H.S.)
Offensive Position: Handler
"Playing Ultimate at JBU was the highlight of my JBU experience.
It is definitely the thing I miss most now that I am gone.
I miss throwing in the Quad, practice on the Intramural Fields,
going to Tournaments, and most of all I miss playing and hanging out
with the friends I made through Ultimate. The way the spirit of the game
molds together with a competitive attitude was something
that could only be found in Ultimate."
"I love how a disk flies."

Major: Political Science, Graduated May 2006
Started Playing when he
was born
Offensive Position: Handler / Wing
"In Fall 2003, after two relatively unsuccessful years attempting to play
club rugby, I decided I needed to find a new sport for myself. My older
brother (Ben) had played ultimate at University of Central Arkansas and
I had played with the Old Men of Siloam a bit at very low level pick-up.
So, ultimate was a logical choice for me to turn to.
"It seemed
the best way to keep playing was to just start a team. So that is what I
set out to do. I got a little bit of funding from school and started
talking to people. Every single person who stepped onto the quad
probably got recruited and I told them about the first meeting. I think
we had about 35 people at that meeting the first day. Similar numbers
showed up to practice for about a week. Then, not unexpectedly, the
numbers started dropping off.
Harvest Moon 13 was our first tournament and we, like most new teams,
lost every game. But, we had a good time and kept going. Frostbite was
our first Spring tourney and we notched our first win versus Nebraska
Corn-fed in winds gusting to 35 mph. Our third tournament of our
inaugural year we struggled for numbers, taking only 9 players and
getting killed in most every game, including a 13-0 blowout at the hands
of KC Ethanol. However, we had fun, played hard, and came away with the
Spirit of the Game Award to compensate for our losses.
"I did a LOT
of the planning and organizing for that first year, including chipping
in parts of tournament fees to keep things cheap for everyone. But, it
was well worth it. Since then the team has grown and gotten more
consistent. Other people have taken charge of organizing. We have gone
from one win, to 8-15 in the 2005 season to 12-9 in the 2006 season.
Despite the loss of the four founding seniors (Luke, Ceech, Mike and
myself) the team is solid on the field and in great hands
organizationally. I look forward to tracking the teams progress through
many years of ultimate."
