COAST serves as a hub of leadership for the design community in John Brown University. The association is committed to stimulate thinking and judgment about design and aesthetics by exposing students to conferences, competitions, exhibitions, critique sessions, tutorials, and extracurricular projects.
The rough COAST member relationships, COAST aims to develop and raise the standard of work each individual produces, in order to prepare students for optimal and innovative communication in the design world. Membership in COAST involves a devotion to enhancing the academic experience as well as collaborative engagements with the COAST community.

As an official AIGA Student Group the club not only has more credibility and access to local, regional, and national events, but also has access to the AIGA Design jobs network with new communication arts jobs posted daily.
