It’s time to get to work. This isn’t a tour of the Washington Post. It’s a chance to talk with professionals and apply what you learn. Industry internships are balanced by class time and guest lecturers. Through the Foundations for Media Involvement, Reporting in Washington and Washington, News & Public Discourse classes, you broaden your knowledge and experiences. Form the foundation for your future – whether you end up writing the news or consuming it.

The Washington Journalism Center is an advanced, experiential semester on Capitol Hill that will cultivate professional news skills and encourage students to think through the implications of being a Christian working in the news media in a city that is home to the powerful and the powerless.

WJC’s classroom goals:

Provide a theoretical framework for the real-world news industry in Washington, D.C.
Study the pursuit of fairness, justice and truth in powerful media outlets and marginalized neighborhoods.
Hone reporting and writing skills needed in all forms of modern media.

WJC’s experiential goals:

Grow through the practice of real-world journalism. Students will function as professional journalists living and working in the city and be required to meet deadlines and hold to industry-level standards of quality.
Gain understanding by serving. Students live in the homes of Washington, D.C., residents and address the real human needs that are so prevalent in this city.
