Study in Ireland and Live in Scenic Lakeside Manor
If you participate in one of JBU’s Ireland summer or semester programs, then you’ll get to stay in the beautiful Lakeside Manor, which will become your base as you study and travel throughout Ireland.
You couldn’t find a more peaceful spot to stay during your time in Ireland. Lakeside Manor is beautifully situated on four acres overlooking Willis Lake. Located in the quiet and much sought after residential suburbs of south Belfast, the home sits back from the main road, creating a peaceful environment.
If that sounds like too much seclusion, never fear—Belfast is near! Lakeside Manor is only four miles away from Belfast City Centre. There is a bus stop across the street from Lakeside Manor, and buses pass through roughly six times an hour. Finaghy railway halt is about a mile away. Furthermore, Lakeside is 16 miles from Belfast International Airport.
Think you’ll be hungry? Think again. There are convenience stores half a mile away at Erinvale. If you need to shop, Finaghy is a mile away and boasts a range of local shops, banks, a library, and a health centre.
For all your spiritual needs, there are a number of evangelical churches within a radius of 2 to 3 miles. Almost all of these churches are accessible by public transportation. Furthermore, Belfast Bible College is a little over two miles away.
For beautiful countryside, you don’t have to go very far. The boundary of Lagan Valley Regional Park is within a quarter mile from Lakeside Manor. The Regional Park also gives easy access to the Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park and Barnett’s Demesne, all within a mile of Lakeside. These parks offer many opportunities for jogging and walking. The Lagan “towpath” is an ideal cycling route and quiet footpath linking Belfast and Lisburn City Centres.
Inside Lakeside Manor, the facilities are extensive enough to meet everyone’s needs. Lakeside has a large library which is also used as a lecture room. There is a sun-room with lots of comfy couches and a big-screen tv. The dining room provides space at the table for everyone. Adjacent to the dining room, the kitchen is equipped with dual-fuel cookers and a separate utility area. Also on the ground floor is a small classroom for up to 12 students, and the C.S. Lewis room that is a small area for quiet study and reflection.
Staff accommodations are located on the ground floor. Students reside in nine bedrooms, all with different views and bonuses, on the middle level. All bedrooms have sinks with hot and cold water. A laundry room with two washing machines and two tumble driers is on the middle floor.
