Jordan Studies Program
Dates: June 14 - August 5, 2008
Cost: $4750
Students who participate
in the Jordan Studies Trip will spend seven life-changing weeks
working with an archaeological excavation at the site of ancient
Abila of the Decapolis in northern Jordan. Much of the daytime is
spent in the field, excavating several early Christian churches
or an Early Bronze Age area at the site. Evenings are spent reading,
relaxing, and in class sessions. Weekend trips include the incredible
rose-red city of Petra, swimming in the Dead Sea, camping in a Bedouin
tent in the desert, wandering the column-lined streets of ancient
cities and scrambling around the Desert Castles. Students have significant
opportunities to develop friendships with Jordanian nationals, including
numerous home visits and outings with members of the local community.
