Athletic Trainer

Position summary:

Responsibilities include assessment, analysis and treatment of injuries to student-athletes, documentation of injuries and care plan, evaluating readiness to return to play, communication with coaches and collaborating with physicians, appropriate athletic practice and game coverage. This is a 10-month position with FT benefits.

Position responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the professional care and safety of varsity student-athletes as outlined in the John Brown University Athletic Training Policies and Procedures Manual which includes but is not limited to the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries incurred by varsity student athletes; up-to-date files of physical exams, SOAP notes, and daily injury treatment logs; physician appointments, emergency care, and decisions related to environmental conditions (heat index, lightning, etc.).
  • Works directly with individual coaches as it relates to injured student athletes on their specific teams.
  • Works closely with area physicians and maintains a professional relationship with the local medical community at large.
  • Assists Head Athletic Trainer in the processing of insurance claims.
  • Organizes and controls equipment and supplies (i.e., check-out, inventory, storage).
  • Participates in professional growth activities by attending clinics and workshops, etc.
  • Maintains a cordial and professional relationship with student-athletes and their parents.
  • Stays current with new medical issues such as HIPAA privacy rules and National Athletic Trainers Association position statements including but not limited to emergency action plans, concussion protocols, sickle cell status, sanitization protocol, etc.
  • Implement drug education and testing protocols as outlined by JBU and NAIA policy and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer and/or Athletic Director.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred. NATABOC certified. Arkansas State Licensure.

  • Student Interns / Work-Study Staff

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

The employee is expected to adhere to all University policies.
