Dr. Preston Jones
Assistant Professor of History
Preston Jones served in the United States Navy from 1986-1990 and received a B.A. in Social Science from California State University, San Bernardino, in June 1993. He received an M.A. in History from Sonoma State University in 1995, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Ottawa (Canada) in 1999. He has received several awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship for study in Canada and a fellowship with the Pew Program in Religion and American History. He reads the Gospels in French, Welsh, Latin, and Spanish, and he dabbles in Greek, German, and Faroese
He has taught Advanced Placement European History, American History, Politics and Psychology at the secondary level and U.S. and European history at several colleges and universities. At JBU he teaches:
- Western Civilization
- United States History
- America at War, 1860-1918
- British Empire
- Leaders and History
- Twentieth Century World History
- Introductory language classes: Latin, Greek, Roman inscriptions, Welsh
- Great Books
Professor Jones has published over 225 articles in academic and general publications, and he is a contributing editor to Books & Culture and Critique. He has published books with the University of Alaska Press, InterVarsity Press, University Press of America and the Research and Education Association.
Because of his interest in seeing the U.S. military end its involvement with the Southeast Asian brothel industry, he also serves on the advisory board of ECPAT-USA, an international organization devoted to combating child prostitution. (See article)

Dr. Jones is married to Annemarie; they have two young children. Professor Jones runs one or two marathons each year.
