Music: Voice (Soprano or Alto)/Musical Theatre
John Brown University seeks a full-time faculty member of voice (soprano or alto)/musical theatre beginning August 1, 2014. Responsibilities include teaching applied voice lessons and studio class; teaching courses in and directing productions in opera workshop/music theatre. Teaching duties may also include diction, vocal pedagogy, and other courses as determined by the needs of the department and candidate’s expertise. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to advising and recruitment of students, participation in departmental governance, performance at appropriate public events, and service on university committees.
The Department of Music and Theatre resides within the Division of Communication and Fine Arts and offers courses leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Music Education. These courses provide a well-rounded education for those wishing to enter the music profession as artists, teachers, supervisors, church musicians, and musicians in other fields. The program in music is closely allied with work in Bible, liberal arts, and technological departments, providing students majoring outside the department of music the opportunity to study music as a minor or as electives.
DMA in Voice (or related area) preferred, as well as significant and successful experience at the college level in both teaching voice as demonstrated by student achievement and directing musical theatre/opera workshop. Demonstrated interest in and commitment to a multi-faceted music program within the context of a program of liberal arts education is necessary. Evidence of scholarly potential and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential.
A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience.
Position begins August 1, 2014. Screening process begins January 20, 2014, and continues until the position is filled.
