John Brown University seeks a full-time faculty member in Biology with a specialization in Neurobiology or Physiology to begin August 1, 2017. The successful applicant will have the ability to teach the lecture and laboratory components of undergraduate courses in Introductory Cell Biology, and advanced courses in Neurobiology/Neuroscience and/or Human Physiology. Additional teaching assignments will depend on the interests and expertise of the applicant, as well as the needs of the Division of Natural Science. A start-up package will be available for the purchase of research equipment and supplies, and a two-month summer salary, funded by an external grant, will be available during the first three years to establish a research program that actively involves undergraduate students. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising, scholarship, and service on university committees.
The Department of Biology offers courses designed to give students a broad foundation in the principles of biology while also assisting in the development of critical, analytical, and laboratory skills. It is housed within the Division of Natural Science in the William H. Bell Science Hall, which opened in 2003. The Division offers Bachelor of Science Degrees in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and mathematics, and works in conjunction with the Education Department to offer a Bachelor of Science in Education with secondary certification in Mathematics. Courses in the Division also support majors in engineering, construction management, elementary education, and nursing.
Doctorate in Biology is preferred, masters required. Effective teaching in higher or secondary education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential. The candidate should be able to clearly articulate the integration of the Christian faith with science and mathematics.
