Course Requirements

To earn your certificate in cybersecurity, you must complete 12 credit hours of courses, including the two required courses and two electives.

Cybersecurity Foundations

Required: An overview of various cybersecurity concepts. You'll explore the history, terminology and need for security while navigating ethical, legal and professional issues. 

Network and Cloud Security

Required: You'll explore the differences between on-premises data center network security and the security needed to secure data in the cloud. You'll also evaluate private, hybrid and public clouds and the security for each.

Digital Forensics Fundamentals

Elective: You'll learn the fundamentals of digital forensics covering both theoretical and practical foundations of commonly used techniques and methods.

IT Risk Management

Elective: You'll learn how to assess, mitigate, and manage information technology risk within the overall risk profile of an organization.

Web Application Security

Elective: You'll explore web applications using various tools and techniques with the goal of identifying security flaws and reporting them so businesses can make notable improvements in their applications that reduce business risk and improve the security posture.

Incident Management

Elective: This course will teach you how to identify, contain, eradicate, and recover from cybersecurity incidents

Identity and Access Management

Elective: This is an essential discipline of information and cybersecurity which which will teach you to manage user identities and their access to enterprise resources and data.

Dr. Ted Song, Chief Diversity Officer, Chair Of Engineering, Computer Science And Cybersecurity, Associate Professor Of Engineering

Dr. Ted Song serves as chair of the Engineering, computer science, and Cybersecurity Departments and is a recipient of the 2012 Texas Exes Teaching Award and the 2018 JBU Faculty Excellence Award. He received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
