"JBU is preparing me to be an excellent counselor"

Friday, November 7, 2014

I am a non-traditional student who is beginning a second career in what I feel is the prime of my life. I was 50 when I started Grad School, and my main worry was, “will I fit into this program with all the younger people who will be there?” The answer was evident on the first night of class. I was totally shocked! There were people of all ages in our classes and so many different backgrounds. I didn’t realize the diversity that this university was going to have.

JBU is preparing me to be an excellent counselor by having both interactive online classes and campus onsite classes. The courses that I am taking are filled with excellent information, and the professors take time to work with you one-on-one if needed. The professors are practicing counselors, so they are excellent sources to have in the need for information while working at my practicum site.

I think this program is unique because there is the feeling that each professor is behind you and that your classmates are also cheering you along. I love to hear about my classmates doing therapy in a session at the CARE Clinic.

The online and in-person professors are so good to work with and each have their own spin on therapy and how they teach class. I can’t choose a favorite class or a favorite professor because they have all been fantastic!

No matter how young or old you are, if you have a desire to get a graduate degree in counseling, JBU is the place to go! They do not treat you like a number and you are recognized as an individual with skills to make it in the field of counseling.
