Marena Harmon is the enrollment coordinator for the Graduate Counseling program at JBU. Once you apply for admission, Marena will work with you throughout the enrollment process for all Grad Counseling programs.
Q. What happens after I apply?
A. When we receive your application and all required documentation (GRE scores, transcripts, references), Dr. Carmack, Graduate Counseling program director, will review your file and submit his admission recommendation to the dean of the Graduate School.
Depending on the time of year and the volume of applicants, it usually takes less than a week to receive an admission letter. As soon as I know that you’ve been approved for acceptance, you’ll receive a congratulatory e-mail from me, then an official acceptance letter from the dean.
Q. What’s the best thing about your job?
A. I love being a part of the community of John Brown University. There’s such a legacy here. Because I’ve been an undergraduate student on campus and helped graduate students through the enrollment process, I’ve built relationships with so many people at JBU. Several of the students have become friends.
I like the thought of being able help students embark on a new chapter in their lives. I get to be a part of something life changing. I might not get to meet some of the students face-to-face until commencement, but by that time I feel like I’ve known them for years because I’ve been working with them from the moment they applied until I take their photo at graduation. I love what I do!
Q. What’s special about the JBU Graduate Counseling Program?
A. Many students have told me that they chose JBU because of the personal touch. We care about our students. They’re more than just a number to us. They’re trying to do something to better their lives and the lives of others. One of our students who’s a single mom told me recently that she’s here trying to make a better life for her daughter. We get to be a part of that goal. We are invested in her and all of our students.
