Business and FaithJBU students and members of the community attended a “Business & Faith” event last Thursday night at Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock. Keynote speaker for the evening was Bill Dillard III, Vice President of Dillard’s Inc.

Dillard spoke about the integration of his faith with his career, and encouraged attendees to lead with integrity. “Business without integrity is not good business,” he said.

Speaking specifically to JBU students in the audience, Dillard outlined his keys to success in business:

  1. Get really good at something
  2. Take on leadership positions
  3. Have grit
  4. Find mentors
  5. Read voraciously
  6. When choosing where to work, pay attention to company’s vision, value and culture
  7. Get involved in community
  8. Don’t be scared
  9. Take your responsibilities seriously, but not yourself

Dillard further explained that your career should be celebrated as an extension of who you are in Christ. “Work isn’t just a means to an end, but an end in and of itself,” Dillard said. “It’s meant to bring us joy and satisfaction.”

More than 120 people attended the dinner event, which was sponsored by the John Brown University Little Rock Center and Fellowship Bible Church.
