Milestone experience challenging, formative and fun
Intensive leadership experience adds value to JBU Graduate Business programs
Tuesday, January 5, 2016
During the first week of December, a group of students in the Graduate Business Programs participated in Soderquist Leadership’s four-day Milestone program. Milestone is a foundational leadership intensive that aims to bring clarity to who you are as a leader through a unique blend of assessments, facilitation, executive guest speakers, experiential initiatives, and reflection. It is one of the many signature experiences in which JBU students can participate while pursuing their graduate degree.
Students are saying that Milestone was challenging, formative, and fun. Here are a few of the things they learned.
“Prior to Milestone, I had not formally written down my personal values. Although I have always considered myself a person with strong values, intentionally incorporating specific values into my personal and professional life has clearly been a gap. Milestone gave me the opportunity to think through the primary values I want to incorporate into everything I do as a leader.
The Milestone experience proved to be a rich time to reflect on where I am today as a leader as well as the type of leader I would like to become. The program gifted me with knowledge and tools to help build a solid foundation for my leadership journey.”
“The main thing I truly came to understand during this Milestone experience was that it’s critical to take a step back from the day-to-day interactions of our lives to assess where we are in comparison to where we want to be – both in our evolution as a person and our effectiveness as leaders in our respective corners of the world.”
“In order to reach your potential as a leader, you must first define your values, because those values create the compass that guides the decisions that affect not only yourself, but all of the stakeholders in your organization. And that snacks are located downstairs!”
