GratitudeGrat · i · tude: The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

One of our core values here in the Soderquist College of Business is gratitude. We are committed to promoting a culture of being thankful to God and to each other. It is an attitude and a practice, and we consider this essential to who we are and the work we’re entrusted to do.

Each year at about this time, like most of you, we take a moment to pause and reflect on the many things for which we are most thankful. Making this list is always a blessing, and this time around, among those key items that seem to have prompted the ever so many others are the following:

This year, we have been privileged to serve over 300 of you either at our Centers here in Arkansas, or online, and even a few of you around the world. And we have been both blessed and humbled to walk alongside you as you learn many new things and gain new skills to lead exceedingly well. We have shared in your academic milestones, marriages, births, promotions, job changes, graduations, and even family sadness and struggles. And through each, we continue to be inspired by your character and commitment to make the most of the time you spend here with us. We are so thankful you have chosen JBU.

Throughout the year, we have also been privileged to work with over 50 incredible faculty. You are all amazing and we sincerely appreciate each of you and your diligence in the preparation for and the delivery of quality academic experiences in our classrooms and online. You selflessly share your unique knowledge, talents, professional experiences, and heart. And in doing so, you bless our students, you set us apart, and you make our programs excellent.

And this year, the College of Business at JBU was officially named the Soderquist College of Business in honor of Donald G. Soderquist, former COO of Walmart Stores, Inc. Throughout his life, Don has been committed to the development of ethical leaders in the workplace and well beyond. We are so grateful to Don and the Soderquist family for their values, vision, and legacy, and for choosing to entrust their name to our College. We are fully committed to continuing the worthy work of equipping and preparing future generations of ethical leaders.

Finally, this year, I have been privileged yet again to work alongside the amazing team here in Graduate Business Programs. I can think of no better place to serve, and I know no finer people with which to do so. So to Joe, Bob, Randall, Tom, Gail, Ruby, and Connor…Thank YOU. Thank you for who you are, for your commitment to our students and faculty and to the work we have been given to do here - for HIS kingdom and for HIS glory.
