The Great Wall was my favorite thing of all of the touristy things we did. It was surreal to finally see something I had read about in history books and heard about for so long. I wish would have had had longer to spend there, but I honestly loved it and could have spent an entire day there!
Next, we visited the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. I didn't realize until we returned to the U.S. that the 25th anniversary of the massacre was only a few days after we were there. This was a really open area, but seemed to be under complete control. I never felt unsafe.
The Forbidden City was MASSIVE and so expansive. I couldn't believe how big it really was! We did a ton of walking that day, but it was well worth it.
The Temple of Heaven was gorgeous. The paintings and gardens were so pretty and detailed. There were great views of the city. It was a great way to end the trip.
