Day 3: Walmart China Store Walks
May 27, 2014
My favorite part of the Walmart store walks were seeing the US products in stores. It almost felt like a treasure hunt running through the aisles trying to locate familiar brands. In particular, I enjoyed hunting for the brands I sell at Clorox. One of my classmates, Rachel, got to talk to a representative from her company (Unilever)!
Another thing that really struck me was the amount of labor at the store. I was so impressed by the sheer number of associates in the stores available to help people.
The items in Walmart that are unique to China were fascinating. The seafood and fresh meat were particularly interesting. I was surprised to see eel and fish heads. While this may be unique to me, it wasn’t to the shopper. They were obviously directly targeting the right people and serving a direct need.
