Dr. Lee Netherton Distinguished Professor Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is established in honor of Dr. Lee Netherton, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at John Brown University. Dr. Netherton was raised in Northeastern Oklahoma, the son of a John Brown University graduate (class of 1938) who was a preacher, teacher, and farmer. Dr. Netherton’s dream of being a chemist began in the fourth grade. Active in all sports, he was a graduate of Jay High School as Salutatorian and attended John Brown University on basketball and academic scholarships. He received his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from John Brown University in 1963 and his Master of Science in organic chemistry from the University of Arkansas in 1967. He then worked for Philips Petroleum Company where he was granted several patents. Dr. Netherton began his service at JBU in 1969, completing his Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 1977 from the University of Arkansas.
