Roger Flanagan Endowed Scholarship
Donor: Roger Flanagan
Roger Flanagan came to John Brown University from Zion, Illinois. He learned about JBU from Storm Whaley during a radio missionary conference at Moody Bible Institute. Roger’s mother sold their family home and moved to Arkansas so that her son could attend JBU. Roger married Florence Burton during his junior year at JBU. He graduated in 1957 with a degree in broadcasting. After graduating, Roger stayed at JBU for one year to work for KUOA as chief engineer of the radio station.
Roger went on to pursue a career in missionary radio, where he was able to help spread God’s Word to people in other countries and in several states across the nation. Roger has worked at radio stations in Arkansas, Puerto Rico, New Mexico, California, as well as in the radio science lab at Stanford University. He finished his career as vice president of operations for a start-up company that he helped build for 25 years. He managed more than 200 employees before his retirement in 1992. He was known as “Mr. Dependable” throughout his career.
Mr. Flanagan was married to Florence for almost 51 years before she passed away in March of 2007. They raised two sons, and shared a wonderful life together.
