Jerome Elward Brown was the younger son of J. Alvin and Mabel Brown and the nephew of John E. Brown Sr. Grace Klopfenstein was raised in Siloam Springs. Jerome and Grace met while attending JBU. Jerome graduated in 1935, the first class to graduate with a four-year degree. Jerome moved to southern California after graduation to manage the Brown hotel and apartment properties. Grace graduated JBU the next year, 1936, then taught school in Elm Springs for a year. In 1937, Grace joined Jerome in California where they were married. Jerome managed another school his uncle John E. had founded, the Glendora School for Girls, in Glendora, CA. Grace also participated in this ministry, helping students and assisting Jerome in visits with prospective donors. Then for several years, the Jerome Brown family lived on the campus of the Brown Military Academy in San Diego, with Jerome as an administrator. In the mid-1950s Jerome, Grace and their two daughters, moved to the San Francisco Bay area. Jerome became the Business Administrator for the school system of Palo Alto, CA. Grace died in 2001 and Jerome in 2005 in Palo Alto. Their daughters Carolyn and Marilyn established this scholarship in memory of their parents.
