Ron and Elizabeth Howard created the Rev. Wilson W. Boggan and Mrs. Jessie Mae Gates Boggan Memorial Endowed Scholarship to honor Elizabeth's parents. Rev. Boggan lived from 1917 to 1998, and Mrs. Boggan lived from 1917 to 1961.

Rev. and Mrs. Boggan loved John Brown University. They met on campus while working in the dining hall as part of the work study program. Rev. Boggan majored in religious studies, and Mrs. Boggan majored in fine arts. Rev. Boggan was an Army Chaplain during World War II, where he served in Europe. After the war, the Boggans worked as Southern Baptist missionaries to the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians in Southeast Oklahoma. Rev. Boggan later worked as an associational missionary and pastor in Mississippi, where he also ran a radio morning show. They always wanted someone to follow in their footsteps to attend JBU because of their wonderful experience in Siloam Springs.
