Alumni Giving
For those of you who attended when our founder, John E. Brown Sr. was president, to those of you who graduated in this new century, we have a common experience. Our lives have been touched.
We know that you have many choices of charities and ministries you could support. When you give to John Brown University, you are investing directly in the lives of students who will go on to impact the world in hundreds of different careers and ministries. Please take a few moments to read the article below from Peter Eldridge (class of ’85) and see how your gift is vitally important to the future students of JBU.
Giving Back
During my days at JBU in 1983-1985, I worked on the grounds crew and in the alumni office as part of the work-study program. My wife, Arlene, worked in the business office and the Student Life office and eventually served as secretary to President John E. Brown III and Chancellor Brown. These positions gave us a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes work necessary to operate a university.
After we graduated in 1985, we decided to begin giving regularly to the JBU Scholarship Fund. During the last 17 years, we have experienced job changes, several business ventures (and the failures of some of them), moving our family to Hawaii, the birth of our six children, the fostering of four infants and many other adventures.
Throughout all of these changes, we have continued giving to JBU, because we know that many JBU students are receiving the benefits of a quality education that will equip them for a lifetime of service. Our giving has sometimes reduced in lean times or increased as God has blessed, but our thankfulness and desire to support what JBU continues to offer has never waned.
As a beneficiary of the work-study program, I always felt grateful for the financial assistance it provided during a time it was greatly needed. I remember thinking at the time that the aid we were receiving was provided by others who had gone before us, and I felt a sense of responsibility to help those who would follow after us.
So we invite you to join us in supporting today’s JBU students through the JBU Scholarship Fund. Together as we give, we can continue the legacy of work-study and need-based scholarships.
