Why did you choose JBU to finish your bachelor’s degree?  I had a child at a young age and had been working at a job for nearly 10 years, but I knew I wanted more for my life and for my daughter. As a single parent, JBU’s Degree Completion Program was very appealing to me. A few of the things that attracted me to JBU were the classes meeting one night a week, the hours, the convenient location, and the Christ-centered atmosphere.

How have you changed – personally and professionally – since starting and/or finishing your degree? Two weeks prior to graduating from the JBU Degree Completion Program I signed an offer with Sam’s Club. I graduated May 5, 2012 and began working for Sam’s Club May 7, 2012. I never thought I would look forward to going to work every day. In my current role, I am challenged on a daily basis, offered educational classes to learn about the business as well as the company, I am encouraged to think about my future with the company, and I am surrounded by associates from hourly to upper management with years of knowledge and experience that are always willing to offer advice, be a mentor, and answer any questions.

How have you applied what you learned in your career? In my current role, I have applied research, leadership, communication, and accounting skills that I learned throughout the program in my career. Graduating from JBU gave me the confidence I needed to make a career change. From my experience at JBU, I learned how to make ethical decisions and the importance of an education, commitment, dedication, and serving others.

What are your current/future goals? I have my dream job and work for a company where I respect their culture and have shared beliefs and values. My goals are to continue to learn about the business and grow with the company. As for my future goals, I hope to hold several positions within the company and can see myself retiring from Sam’s Club.
