4 Leadership Lessons

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Celia SwansonCelia Swanson, SVP for Global Associate Relations for Walmart U.S., spoke to students and alumni at the Rogers Center last week as part of JBU's Ethical Leadership Month. Swanson discussed the importance of integrity in business and highlighted four important leadership lessons:

  1. Seek purpose, not power.
  2. Reveal your authentic self.
  3. Look in the mirror.
  4. Relinquish guilt.

In order to be an effective leader, Swanson said, you must care about the people and not just their performance. "Ask yourself: what do I want my leadership legacy to be?"

Swanson's speech kicked off a series of events at JBU this month in Rogers, Little Rock and Fort Smith. For information about future Ethical Leadership Month events, visit www.jbu.edu/grad/business/ethicalleadership.
