Who wants to be a millionaire?
Tuesday, November 5, 2013
According to a new survey, business degrees remain lucrative investments. In fact, six of the top 10 degrees held by the world's wealthiest individuals were in the field of business – MBA, economics, commerce, accounting, finance and business administration.
While the survey placed engineering as the most commonly held degree by millionaires, many of those engineers made their fortune as entrepreneurs. “The same goes for most law and politics graduates, who owe their fortunes not to practicing their professions but climbing the ranks of the financial services sector,” Oliver Williams of WealthInsight, the company that conducted the survey, said in a statement.
Although some of the world's wealthiest never finished a degree – notably, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Apple's Steve Jobs – the survey found them to be the exception rather than the rule. Indeed, roughly 99% of the 70,000 millionaires surveyed have a college education.
