Golden Goal Decides JBU Women’s Match
Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 23, 2006) — It is a remarkable feat in any sport when a defense can hold its opponent scoreless for 106 minutes, which is what the John Brown Golden Eagles did Saturday. Unfortunately for them, the Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison did it as well. Then Carissa Watson ended the game in the 107th minute by heading a corner kick by Lin Yan into the net, giving Oklahoma Baptist a 1-0 double-overtime victory in Shawnee, Okla.
It was another stalwart effort by John Brown’s defense, which has clamped down on opponents lately after a shaky start to the season. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Wall made 9 saves. But all eight John Brown shots-on-goal found their way into the hands of Oklahoma Baptist’s Silvia Arias, including a second-overtime attempt by sophomore midfielder Rachel Gerdin.
John Brown fell to 1-7-0 overall and 1-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Oklahoma Baptist is 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
The Golden Eagles host Oklahoma Christian Tuesday at 2:00.
