Women's woes continue in Texas
Lubbock, Texas (January 21, 2012) — The JBU women’s basketball team fell to 9-11 on the year and 3-9 in the Sooner Athletic Conference after losing 74-65 to No. 9 Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Sophomore Kortni Barenberg led JBU with 17 points, followed by Sierra Shipley with 13 and Lauren Rogers and Chelsea Garrison with 11 and 10 respectively.
LCU (14-3, 11-0), got a game high 25 points from Emily Atkins. Nicole Hampton picked up the double-double with 16 points and 10 caroms.
After falling behind 39-22 at halftime, the Lady Eagles regrouped and made it a single digit game after a three point make by Shipley at the 17:10 mark in the second half. But LCU responded and pushed it back to a 15 point game after a bucket from Hampton at the 5:24 mark.
JBU continued to chip away and pulled within eight at one point but never could get below that margin.
For the game, JBU shot 49 percent (24-of-49) from the floor, while giving up 52.2 percent (24-of-46) to the Lady Chaps.
Coming up, the ladies will remain on the road as they travel to take on St. Gregory’s (Okla.) on Thursday night in Shawnee before returning home on Saturday to face Oklahoma Baptist at 3 p.m.
