Women scratched by Lady Cats
Claremore, Okla. (December 10, 2011) — The JBU women’s basketball team lost 72-64 on Saturday afternoon against Rogers State (Okla.) in Sooner Athletic Conference action. The loss drops the ladies to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Three JBU players finished in double figures led by junior Anna Parish with 13 points followed by sophomores Sierra Shipley and Jessica Berlin with 12 and 11 points respectively.
For RSU (9-3, 3-1), Ariana Silva scored 23 points and Leah Smith finished with 16 points.
After leading by five, 37-32, at the break, the Lady Eagles came out flat and allowed RSU to tie things up at 42 a piece after a bucket by Smith with 16:02 left in the game.
JBU’s woes continued throughout the half, and the Lady Hillcats took advantage and earned their first lead of the half at the 14:56 mark and never looked behind from this point.
With 1:12 left in the game, RSU held their largest lead at 11, 70-59, before closing out with the eight point victory.
For the game, JBU shot 42.6 percent (20-of-47), while giving up 44.1 percent to RSU. The Lady Hillcats won the rebounding battle 35-30.
The Lady Eagles return to play on December 17-19 when they travel to play in the Cruzin Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. On Dec. 17, JBU takes on Waldorf College at 4 p.m. (EST), and on Dec. 19, the women take on Dickinson State at 1 p.m. (EST).
