Turnovers Hamper Lady Eagles
Oklahoma City (February 14, 2011) — The JBU women’s basketball team had a tough night on Monday losing 54-75 to No. 2 Oklahoma City at Abe Lemons Arena.
The loss drops JBU to 18-7 overall and 12-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OCU, meanwhile, improves to 20-2 overall and 15-2 in the SAC.
JBU had two players finish in double-digits led by Sierra Shipley with 18 points and four boards. And Chelsea Garrison was close behind with a 14 point four rebound performance.
For OCU, Lauren Gober led three double digit outputs with 21 points and seven rebounds. Donica Cosby was next with 15 points, and Desiree Jeffries finished with 12.
OCU pressured the ball from the jump and forced 26 turnovers which led to 26 points. At halftime, the Lady Stars led 33-21 and carried that momentum into the second half where they built on that lead.
Cosby gave OCU their largest lead of the night and pretty much sealed the deal when she scored with 2:33 remaining in the game, to put OCU up by 25, 73-48.
Overall, the Lady Eagles shot 40.5 percent (17-of-42) from the floor compared to 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the Lady Stars. OCU also out rebounded JBU 37-27.
JBU returns to the floor on Thursday when they travel to Chickasha, Okla. to face Science & Arts of Okla. at 6 p.m.
