Men pull away from MACU
Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 23, 2010) — On a soggy Saturday afternoon, the JBU men’s soccer team dropped Mid-America Christian 4-2 in SAC action. The win improves the men to 9-5-1 overall and pushes them into a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings.
Sasha Viatrov got things started for the Eagles after scoring unassisted early on. Senior Juan Iraola followed it up with a second goal after taking the assist from sophomore Misha Kolemasov. Later in the half, Kolemasov was rewarded with a goal of his own after blasting a shot from just outside the box that was untouchable.
MACU showed signs of fight when Casey King put them on the board with a goal late in the half to make it 3-1 JBU heading to intermission.
After a shortened break, MACU cut it down to a one goal game in the 49th minute when Kyle Pezant followed up a miss and scored off the rebound.
Sensing an attempt at a comeback, the Eagles buckled down on defense and held off further Evangel attacks.
JBU continued their own attack, however, and Gabriel Duarte put in a security goal after scoring unassisted in the 83rd minute.
Freshman Pablo Garcia collected five saves in the win for the Eagles.
JBU closes out the regular season at home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Science & Arts of Oklahoma.
