The Lady Golden Eagles are traveling to Texas this weekend to play the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens on Thursday at 6 p.m. before taking on the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaparrals, who are currently ranked first in the conference, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE LADY GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU begins the week at 9-9 overall and 3-7 in conference. They are currently ranked ninth in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Sophomore guard Jessica Berlin from Siloam Springs, Ark., is currently the team’s top scorer with 12.28 ppg followed by sophomore guard Sierra Shipley from Fayetteville, Ark., with 12.19 ppg. Freshman forward Morgan Ankrom from Farmington, Mo. is leading JBU in rebounds with 5.00 rpg followed by senior point guard Chelsea Garrison from Springdale, Ark., with 4.67 rpg. The Ladies have a team average of 61.33 ppg and are ranked fifth in the NAIA in total 3-point field goals made with 142.
JBU defeated Wayland Baptist earlier in the season 54-53 but fell 61-58 to No. 9 Lubbock Christian.
ABOUT THE WBU FLYING QUEENS: The Flying Queens lost their last game to No. 2 Oklahoma City with a final score of 70-54. Wayland Baptist is currently eighth in the conference with a record of 3-6, 5-10 overall. Senior forward Erika Raymond is the current leading scorer for the Flying Queens with 13.07 ppg followed by senior center Alex Williams with 10.60 ppg. Williams is also the team’s leading rebounder with 6.73 rpg followed by freshman center Maty Diallo with 5.36 rpg. As a team, they average 64.33 ppg while their opponents average 68.33.
ABOUT THE LCU LADY CHAPARRALS: Lubbock Christian’s Lady Chaparrals are 12-3 overall and 9-0 in conference play, putting them at the top of the SAC and ninth in the nation. Their top scorer is sophomore guard Emily Atkins with 14.80 ppg followed by freshman guard Kelsey Canavan with 14.40 ppg. Canavan is also the leading rebounder for LCU with 7.40 rpg followed by fellow freshman guard Nicole Hampton with 6.87 rpg. Lubbock Christian is has the highest free throw percentage in the division with 80.5 percent and has the third highest 3-point field goal percentage with36.4 percent.
