Women trample Waldorf
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (December 17, 2011) — The JBU women’s basketball team cruised to a 79-40 win over Waldorf (Iowa) in their first game of the 2011 Cruzin Classic hosted by Trip Sports in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With the win, the ladies improve to 6-5 overall.
Sophomore Jessica Berlin paced JBU with 19 points after going 5-of-6 from downtown, while sophomore Sierra Shipley tossed in 15 to go with six boards. Freshman Lauren Rogers rounded out the double digit scoring for the Lady Eagles with 11.
For Waldorf (4-8), Shayna Geitzenauer had 16 points, four rebounds, and a steal.
After a slow start, JBU put together several runs and managed to jump out to comfortable lead before securing a 43-19 cushion at halftime.
JBU continued to pour it on in the second half by knocking down trey after trey. At the end of the night, the ladies were one three pointer shy of tying the team record for three pointers made in the game, which stands at 16.
For the game, the ladies shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the floor including 45.5 percent (15-of-33) from long distance. WU, meanwhile, was limited to 34.7 percent (17-of-49) from the field. JBU won the rebounding battle 37-26, and forced 26 turnovers while committing 18.
The women return to action on Monday, Dec. 19 when they take on Dickinson State (N.D.) at 1 p.m. (EST).
