JBU Men’s Soccer Suffers Disappointing Loss
Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 30, 2004) — The JBU men’s soccer team was upset by the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist Saturday in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. OBU defeated JBU 3-1, ending the Golden Eagles’ tournament hopes and possibly ending their season. John Brown was ranked second in the conference coming into the match, with OBU ranked last.
In a heated match, Oklahoma Baptist struck first with a header off a corner kick. Freshman Oscar Amaya tied the score for JBU off an assist by sophomore Justin Cowell. The teams went to halftime tied. Oklahoma Baptist was able to score two more goals in the second half. JBU attacked the goal, with 11 shots on goal in the second half, but was unable to score.
JBU now must wait for the Region VI pairings to see if they will get to continue their season.
