Clark Sheehy
Head Coach

Clark Sheehy begins his first year as head coach of the men’s basketball program at John Brown, but he is no stranger to JBU basketball. Sheehy, who is a 1999 graduate of JBU and son of former head coach John Sheehy, was a three-year starter that averaged 12 points per game over his four-year career (1995-98). He is currently ranked 18th on the JBU career scoring list with 1089 points, and fourth on the three pointers made list with 225. He also earned All-Sooner Conference honors his junior and senior seasons.

Sheehy has spent the last two years as head coach at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, Calif. FPU, which is a member of the NAIA’s Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC), competes against other notable GSAC teams including Azusa Pacific, whom John Brown defeated in 2005 for the NAIA Division I National Championship, and Concordia (Calif.), the 2007 NAIA Division I National Championship Runner-up.

In his two years at FPU, Sheehy accumulated a 28-29 record. During his first year, Sheehy took a program that had only one winning season in the previous eight years to a 15-13 record. In his second year, the team’s record dipped to 13-16, but FPU advanced to postseason play for the first time since 2004.

Before his stint at FPU, Sheehy was an assistant coach at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Prior to that, Sheehy spent one season at NCAA Division II member Texas A&M University, Commerce, while he completed a master of education (physical education) degree. He also spent one season as an assistant coach for the women’s team at John Brown. The 31-year old Sheehy is a native of Siloam Springs, and is married (Elisa).

Aaron Niven
Assistant Coach

Aaron Niven is entering his first year as assistant men’s basketball coach at JBU. Prior to coming to John Brown, Niven had been the men’s assistant basketball coach at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia for seven years. Before his period at SAU, Niven spent two years (1998-2000) working as an assistant at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, then Westark College, under current Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler.

A native of Rogers, Niven earned his bachelors degree from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville in 1998, and went on to earn a master of education degree in 2000. He is a third generation head coach following in the footsteps of his father Bill Niven, head coach at Green Forest High School (Ark.).

The 32-year old Niven and his wife, Shannon, have a baby girl named Madalyn.
