2006 European Art Tour - Amsterdam, Brugges, London
For two weeks in June, 2006 Mr. Andrus and his family along with Mrs. Abbott and her family and 8 students went on an art trip to Amsterdam, Brugges, and London. The group landed at AMS Airport in Amsterdam on June 6th, 2006 and headed straight into the heart of Amsterdam. The trip just happened to land on the 400 year anniversary of Rembrandt, and the town was alive with art and history. After 1 day of jet-lag and 3 days of sight-seeing and nearly getting hit by the Dutch on their bikes, the group departed for the city of Brugges, in Belgium.
Brugges was a city like none other. It is a small town nestled in the untouched and friendly atmosphere of Belgium. The streets are all brick and the architecture is all medieval and original. The group enjoyed some great meals and an afternoon of bike-riding around the city, seeing old-style windmills and canals. From Brugge the group took the Eurostar train under the English Channel to London.
The group landed at Victoria Station and then walked to our hotel which was right between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey - a short walk from each. For 5 beautiful days they stayed in London, visiting such sites as the National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and a day trip to Stratford, Warwick Castle and Oxford. Students climbed to the top of St Paul's Cathedral, and experienced a "flight" on the London Eye.
We had two weeks of great weather, great art, great food, and great friendships.
