Admission Requirements

  1. Successful completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours of transferable college credit.
  2. Minimum age of 23 with at least two years of formal or informal work experience.
  3. GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale) or better on all prior academic work.
  4. Acceptable federal and state background checks.
  5. Successful completion of the Praxis I exam series. Scores must meet the JBU minimum requirements in reading, writing and mathematics (the JBU minimum is higher than the state minimum). Candidates who meet the state minimums but not the JBU minimums must complete a Growth Plan. (Form available in the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies.)
  6. Successful completion of the Praxis II Elementary Education: Content Knowledge exam. Scores must meet the JBU minimum requirements.
  7. Approved experience with children.
  8. Recommendations from two people (not related to the candidate) who address: the candidate’s (1) professional experience and practices; (2) personal characteristics, habits, dispositions. Reference forms are included in the application packet.
