A. The American Council of Learned Societies
The ACLS "advances humanistic studies
in all fields of learning in the humanities and the related social sciences."
The ACLS awards peer-reviewed fellowships.

B. The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation
The Foundation makes
several awards to faculty, mostly in chemistry and related fields.

C. The Fulbright Program
Fulbright grants are made for educational
activities conducted in foreign countries--primarily university lecturing,
advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary
schools. Fulbright recipients lecture or conduct research in fields
ranging from journalism and urban planning to music, philosophy and
zoology.

D. John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation
The Foundation offers Fellowships that allow
scholars and artists to engage in research in any field of knowledge
and creation in any of the arts, including the performing arts, "under the freest possible conditions."

E. NEH: Fellowships
The NEH Offers two
faculty fellowships. General fellowships support research in the humanities
and are for full-time work for 6-12 months. FPIRI fellowships (Fellowship
Program at Independent Research Institutions) provide research funds
to pursue research at one of the approved centers. Most are 4-12 months.

F. NEH: Summer Stipends
Summer stipends fund
humanities projects that can either be completed during the term of
the stipend or are part of a long-term endeavor.

G. National Humanities Center: Fellowships
Academic year, residential fellowships in
a variety of humanities fields, including religion, art, languages,
literature, history.

H. Social Science Research Council
The SSRC sponsors fellowship and grant programs
on a wide range of topics, and across many different career stages.
Most support goes to predissertation, dissertation, and postdoctoral
fellowships, offered through annual competitions. Some programs support
summer institutes and advanced research grants. Although most programs
target the social sciences, many are also open to applicants from the
humanities, the natural sciences, and relevant professional and practitioner
communities.

I. Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars: Fellowships
Approximately 35
fellowships awarded each year to spend an academic year in Washington,
DC to conduct research in the social sciences or humanities.
