Born and educated in California, Patty Kirk received a B.A. in English from the University of California at Irvine and an M.A. in English from Tulane University in New Orleans. She spent the following nine years studying German and Mandarin, teaching English, and writing essays and short stories in Berlin, Beijing, and Hong Kong. She returned to the United States to pursue an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Arkansas. She now lives with her family on a farm in Westville, Oklahoma.
