Honors Scholars Program
Description of the Program
The John Brown University Honors Scholars Program was founded in 1987 and has since served over 400 JBU students.
The curriculum includes a core of enriched courses developed for highly-motivated students. These courses are specially designed to encourage critical thinking and intellectual growth. Professors in honors classes actively engage their students through discussion and the reading of primary texts. Honors classes replace required core curriculum courses.
The program is two-tiered. Qualifying Junior-level students have the opportunity to continue in the program and seek an honors degree. To receive an Honors Degree, students must complete at least 21 hours of honors credit.
Those who do not wish to continue to the second tier of the program have honors courses indicated on their transcripts and will have experienced an exceptional learning environment.
The Honors Scholars Program emphasizes the exchange of ideas in a
variety of settings: in the classroom, in the Honors Center, on field
trips, in the homes of professors, and through off-campus study opportunities.
