Degree Details
A Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.Eng.) with either electrical/computer or mechanical concentration is the degree offered. The JBU program has 72 credits in engineering. These hours represent a blend of engineering science and engineering design topics that is approximately seventy-five percent engineering science and twenty-five percent engineering design. The engineering science portion of the courses common to both concentrations provide understanding of mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical and electronic circuits, control systems, field theory, materials and programming. Additional engineering science includes digital systems, signal processing, communication theory, electromagnetics and computer architecture in the electrical concentration and dynamics, machine design, heat transfer and fluid mechanics in the mechanical concentration. Additionally there are 30 credits of math and science and 34 credits of general studies.
A student who majors in engineering and takes the five electrical/computer concentration courses, three electrical/computer technical elective courses, and three mechanical courses (from either the mechanical concentration courses or the mechanical technical elective courses) shall receive the degree Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical/Computer Concentration and an enhancement certificate from the chair of the Division of Engineering and Construction Management certifying the additional work done in the mechanical concentration. A Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical Concentration with an enhancement certificate certifying additional work done in the electrical/computer concentration may be obtained in a similar manner.
