Digital Media Arts

Concentration: Animation

The Animation concentration focuses on creating movement in visual images. Students work primarily in a project-based environment where they animate stories of their own creation. From script to storyboard and animation, the focus is on each student developing their own artistic style.

Traditional art skills combine with digital technique to create imagery and movement. Industry standard methods are used to move the student's individual abilities toward real-world expectations. Students begin with applying established principles of animation such as squash & stretch, timing, anticipation, and exaggeration to build a foundation. Later, advanced work in areas of specialty such as visual effects and character animation provide portfolio pieces to highlight the student's individual talents and abilities that they continue to develop throughout the entire program.

We take the best of the last 100 years of animation methodology and move forward into the future. As modern digital storytellers, our creative digital imagery and movement is built on a traditional base of foundational artistic skills.
